Activities
& Adventures

There are many organized events, activities and adventures in which to partake on Grand Manan & White Head during the summer. Afterwards, kick up your heels, relax in peace and quiet, enjoy scenic lookouts, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and have a tasty bit to eat before starting the nextAdventure. For rainy days, video and game rentals are available, as well as programs at the Grand Manan Museum. Our trail system also offers challenges from easy, short hikes to difficult, overnight treks. If you have forgotten anything, our many stores and businesses can probable provide a replacement. Most restaurants are licensed and we have one licensed bar with pool tables. In the winter curling, school and adult sports can be watched or you can partake. A Boys and Girls Club and fitness centre are located in the same building offering programs year round. There are also many informal clubs including quilting, gardening and literary, among others, plus one service club - The Rotary Club. A branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is located in Grand Harbour. MananNet in the community school in Grand Harbour provides community access to the internet and training sessions for computer programs. A library is also located in the community school. All of the churches offer special events as well as regular services. More information can be found on the services page.Grand Manan and New Brunswick's Climate: Weather broadcasts are given in degrees Celsius rather than Fahrenheit.During the summer, days can get quite warm but are cooler in the evening. Temperatures tend to be warmer inland and cooler along the shore. The Bay of Fundy remains cool throughout the summer with highs around 13 C (65 F). This keeps the air temperature above the Bay cool. If conditions are windy, the apparent air temperature will seem much cooler. Fog will form in the summer when the continent is very warm and humid and this air mass moves out into the Gulf of Maine and Bay of Fundy which is much cooler than the land. Fog can be very persistent over water but will often "burn off " on land. In the winter sea smoke or "vapour" forms when the water temperature is much warmer than the air temperature (typically -10 C or 14 F and colder). Expect snow in the winter but coastal areas may get rain and freezing rain because of the warming influence of the Bay of Fundy.
Average Highs:
June 23 C - 73 F
July 26 C - 79 F
August 25 C - 77 F
September 19 C - 66 F
Clothing. The following are suggestions for land activities. If you are engaged in any water activities make sure you have long pants, wind breakers (rain gear is also good for this) and many layers. Layering allows you to adjust to changing temperatures, close to land it may be quite warm, further out it may be chilly. Mitts or gloves, hats and long underwear may be required at some times. Frequently tour operators have extra clothing but it is best to bring your own. Remember sun screen, dark glasses and a brimmed hat will protect you from excessive UV radiation.
