A Few Facts:


 
 
The Grand Manan archipelago is a series of islands
and ledges at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy between the state of Maine and the province of Nova Scotia.  The archipelago is part of the province of New Brunswick, Canada.

The main island, Grand Manan, lies between approximately:
Longitude: 66 55'W and 66 41'W Latitude: 44 48'N and 44 34'N

Grand Manan Island has:

Length: 28.4 km (15.31 miles) Width: 12.4 km (6.7 miles)

Area: 142 sq. km (55 sq. miles)

Population: 2700 people in 990 households (including White Head)

Primary Industries: fishing, manufacturing, tourism & aquaculture

The Grand Manan Archipelago is in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone

 
Daily Local Weather    During the summer expect warm days (15-25 C or 60-80 F) and cool evening breezes.  If you are planning a day adventure on the Bay of Fundy bring warm clothing that is impermeable to wind; air temperatures on the water may drop to 10 C or 50 F.  Mitts and hats are not uncommon for these trips.  Shorts are not recommemded.  However on land, days can be very pleasant.  Fog is common in July and will make conditions cooler.

Spring and fall see warm days and frosty evenings.  The Bay never really warms up to swimming temperatures which makes our summer temperatures cooler, and a later spring.  Warmest water temperatures occur in late August which gives us a longer fall.

In winter average temperatures hover around the freezing point, usually with a stiff damp wind, although colder temperatures do occur.  Snow is common from January through March but rain is also possible.  The Bay of Fundy does not freeze which makes our temperatures warmer in the winter than the mainland of New Brunswick.

Daily Marine Weather  Mariners are advised that weather can change rapidly on the Bay of Fundy.  Tide is a major factor in navigating and may affect surface conditions, especially if tide and wind direction are in opposition.  Proper tide tables and navigational charts are recommended as well as a current weather report.
