Calendar of Events (subject to change without notice): Meetings of Island Organizations -The Rotary Club meets every Thursday morning at 7AM at the St. Paul's Anglican Church Hall in Grand Harbour - at the junction of Route 776 and Ingalls Head Road. All Rotarians are welcome. -The Grand Manan Tourism Association and Chamber of Commerce meet jointly every third Monday of the month at 7:30PM at various locations between October and May with the exception of December. Bingo is held every Thursday from April through December (open to all). -The Grand Manan Group of Alcoholics Anonymous meet Sundays at 6PM and Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30PM in the North Head Town Hall. -The Ladies Guild of the Church of the Ascension meet

Openings of Selected Activities/Businesses -The Royal Canadian Legion bingo begins in April through to December at their facility in Grand Harbour every Thursday evening. -Brookside Golf Course and Mini-Golf officially opens for the season on May 1. A number of golf tournaments are offered throughout the summer for selected events. Contact Durlan Ingersoll (506 662 8399 or nateem@NB.SYMPATICO.CA) or Marion Ingersoll (506 662 3253) for more information about tournaments. -Many seasonal accommodations reopen in May, most by the holiday Victoria weekend (approximately by May 24). -Dulsing begins when the weather is warm enough to sun dry the dulse and continues through the summer and early fall. -The Grand Manan Museum is open May 30 until September 23rd, 2011. The Evening Programmes and Special Events Schedule for 2011 can be viewed here: www.grandmananmuseum.ca. Group and Tours Visits to the museum outside of these times can be arranged by appointment. Come visit this great community museum -The Grand Manan Whale & Seabird Research Station natural history museum opens the beginning of June until Thanksgiving (early October). -Trips to Machias Seal Island (puffin nesting colony) begin mid-June until early August. Contact Sea Watch Tours for more information. -The Farmer's Market begins the third Saturday of June until mid-September, local produce, crafts and entertainment for the family and are held every Saturday morning during this time from 10:00am - noon in North Head. -Whale watching trips begin late June until late September. Check individual web sites for more information. -The Visitor Information Centre opens at the Museum in Grand Harbour (1144 Route 776) from late June through September. Telephone number (506) 662-3442. -The Grand Manan Curling Club opens in late November with a Funspiel. There are a number of bonspiels throughout the winter with a closing Funspiel in April. Bingo is held every Sunday during the winter and Fridays in the summer. Dances are held after bonspiels and also once a month from May through October. We at the Grand Manan Tourism Association recognize this as a prime time to promote our island and the quaint, peaceful way of life it provides. We have taken the winter to promote and/or plan events to draw people in celebration of the arrival of our new ferry, Grand Manan Adventure. Whether you are "from away", lived here all your life, or some where in between, we want you to celebrate with us! o JULY 1 - All day. "CANADA Days" - Seal Cove - Hosted by: Village of Grand Manan - Contact: Wayne H. Sturgeon 662-3293. It all starts on July 1. Events will run the whole day starting at 7:30 a.m. with a hearty breakfast and also ending with great food in the evening at the Fire Hall. All Village events and foods are fun and free! Please refer to the June Issue of the Island Times for a complete schedule of what a fun-filled time we have in store for you! o JULY 2 - 6 p.m. "Ball Game" - Grand Harbour - Hosted by: Village of Grand Manan - Contact: Wayne H. Sturgeon 662-3293. July 2 will once again see Grand Manan's Village Council take on the protective services personnel in a friendly game of softball. Come see the Fire Department, RCMP, DNR, DFO and Ambulance NB staff, our protective services and like Council members past and present, promise an exciting game while you are enjoying free hot dogs and beverages. The fun all starts at 6 p.m. at the Grand Harbour ball diamond! o JULY 3 - 1:30 p.m. "Chicken BBQ" - Anchorage - Hosted by: GM Rotary Club - Contact: Michael O'Neill 662-9885. If you like chicken like I do, and BBQ chicken most of all, be at the Anchorage Provincial Park on July 3. $15 gets you all the fixings with the finest BBQ chicken ½'s on the island. It all starts at 1:30 p.m. and make sure to be there early before they sell out! o JULY 4 - 10 a.m.-9 p.m. & JULY 5 - 10 a.m.-2 p.m. "Seafood Festival" - Grand Manan Arena - Hosted by: Grand Manan Tourism Assoc. - Contact: Wayne H. Sturgeon 662-3293. There is nothing as good as seafood and you will see, experience and purchase plenty of it for 2 days starting July 4. Doors are open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and for $2 you will hear how the bounty of the sea is harvested, processed and how great it tastes. Everyone will be asked to judge who makes the best fish and seafood chowder on Grand Manan! When the doors are opened at 10 a.m. the next morning, our Champions will be announced. The 2 day event at our Arena will conclude at 2 p.m. on July 5. Don't miss it! o JULY 6 - 6 p.m. "Dinner Theatre" - GMCS Great Hall - Hosted by: GMCS GM Drama Club - Contact: Heather Ingalls 662-8256. Grand Manan has an award winning Drama Club overseen by its dedicated mentor, Heather Ingalls. For $15 come and experience an evening of fine performance and food at 6 p.m. on July 6 at GMCS Great Hall. You will not be disappointed! o JULY 7 - 6 p.m. "Geocaching" - GM Boys & Girls Club. Geocaching is all the rage for those who appreciate outdoor adventure and GPS technology. July 7 promises all this as you start out at 6 p.m. from the Grand Manan Boys & Girls Club. Nearly everyone enjoys a great story and Grand Manan has the greatest storytellers who can tell the great history and culture of our island. If this is what you want to hear, join us at the Advent Hall in North Head at 7 p.m. on July 8 and hear what makes us, us. o JULY 9 - 6 p.m. "Lobster Roll Supper & Music" - Curling Club - Hosted by: Swallowtail Keepers Society- Contact: Sue Stymest 662-3784. Events will conclude on July 9 with an evening of Lobster Rolls and the best local musical talent, $25 person. All funds will go to the restoration of the Swallowtail light keepers buildings and grounds. Help the Swallowtail Light Keepers Society keep up the good work and have a great time doing it! o AUG 26-27 "Summer's End Folk Festival" - a festival celebrating music and the arts - situated on the island of Grand Manan in New Brunswick. Registration is due before August 8th and participants are limited (only 16 spaces). Great selection of local produce, organic herbs and vegetables, crafts and handiwork, entertainment for the family. -Rotary Festival "Family Fun for Everyone". Games, craft displays beginning Thursday; Farmer's market, variety show, fireworks and dance on Saturday; Singspiration and BBQ on Sunday at 7:00pm. Lots of other events. Date changes from year to year but always ends on the long weekend in August - the weekend with the first Monday which is New Brunswick Day. For instance in 2010 the festival starts the last week of July because the holiday Monday falls on August 2nd. See their web site for full details. www.grandmananrotary.com - The Ladies Guild of the Church of the Ascension in North Head have three afternoon teas, a Strawberry Tea in July, a Blueberry Tea in August and a Christmas Tea in November. -Wood Island Reunion - weekend prior to New Brunswick Day which is the first Monday in August. Some events on Grand Manan. Boat taxi service to Wood Island provided from Seal Cove on the Sunday. Church service at the Wood Island Baptist Church. Bingo is held every Sunday night during the winter and Friday nights in the summer. Dances are held after bonspiels and also once a month out of the curling season (usually May through October). Check the Coastal Transport website in even years (2006, 2008, etc.) for ferry substitutions and changes in schedules.
